MONICA PINARDI

CNR-IREA - NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL OF ITALY, INSTITUTE FOR ELECTROMAGNETIC SENSING OF THE ENVIRONMENT ITALY

Dr. Monica Pinardi is a researcher at CNR-IREA. Degree in Environmental Sciences (2004), PhD in Ecology (2009) at the University of Parma. Since 2014 she works in the “water quality remote sensing group” at CNR-IREA. The main research activities have seen the integration of classical limnological techniques with remote sensing tools for the study of the quality of aquatic ecosystems and primary producers (phytoplankton and macrophytes) at different spatial-temporal scales on inland waters (lakes, rivers, wetlands). The research activity is characterized by measurements of radiometric and limnological data in situ, useful for the purposes of calibration and validation of products from remote sensing data (EO data). Several applications are related to the use of water quality maps in terms of abundance of phytoplankton (e.g. chlorophyll-a concentration), and suspended solids (TSM concentration; turbidity) for the study and monitoring of aquatic ecosystems. Recent applications are related to the assessment of time series, trends, and changes in water quality parameters in the context of climate change. 15-years’ experience in fieldwork activities, which include spectroradiometric campaigns that have been performed in several environments including deep and shallow lakes, and wetlands.
